I first began teaching yoga in 2000, eager to share the beauty of this technique with others. Based in the Rajakilpakkam, Chennai area, my intention at Paathanjala is to help our students listen to their inner selves and find the courage to step out of their comfort zone.

Yoga is an ancient art that teaches us to be present in the moment. I hope that my students experience the joy that this practice brings us. MY Yoga Studio has something for everyone, and at all levels.

Tutor Yoga

About me

My introduction to Yoga was more by chance. When I had a problem with my ankle during postpartum period, my husband, who was learning Yoga from Shankar
master, took me to the yoga centre. To my surprise, Shankar Master, an intuitive
master, just took a glance and told me that my future would lay in yoga. The seed for
my abiding interest in yoga was sown by the venerable Shankar master.
The science of Yoga, which has been passed down from generation to generation is
a gift to us. I am a practising as a yoga tutor for 25 + years.   I am eternally indebted
to my Yoga Master Shri Shankar master, of South Yogi Centre, Tambaram,a selfless
Guru, for my initiation into our traditional yoga.

I learnt the yogic lessons from Shankar master and developed a passion
for this divine art. It took me seven years of dedicated learning to attain certain level
of proficiency. Patanjali Yoga sutra is the fountain head for yoga and the followers
had adapted their own versions. Shankar master had based his curriculum on Ram
Lal Maha Prabhuji stream which is nearly 200 years old. I started taking yoga
lessons from the year 1997.I am a Post Graduate Diploma holder of Annamalai
University, Tamilnadu.

GYM offers a parallel channel for attaining physical fitness. There is a
fundamental difference between Yoga and GYM. While Yoga gives one an overall
sense of well-being as physical features, internal organs and inner peace are
sustained and nourished by Prana Sakthi and rhythmic movements of limbs, GYM
on the other hand, is more physical and the desired goals are achieved rapidly. As a
practitioner of yoga,I can assure that it keeps one's mind alert and sharp, takes care
of glands, nerves ,and veins and keep them healthy. Yoga regulates weight and
physical shape and nourishes the major internal organs. It will also help to spot out
any major problems in the body. Yogic exercises, also called 'asanas' combine
regulated breathing with physical movements   giving one abundant Prana Sakthi.
The face of a yoga practitioner exudes a healthy glow. Perhaps there may be some
truth in the perception that discontinuance of GYM exercises by aversion may result
in losing all the gains of physical achievement.

There are no age restrictions in practicing yoga. Anyone who is above six years of
age to as old as 95 years can practice yoga in accordance with their physical
condition. However, in case of anyone suffering from major health issues, they need
to proceed with caution under guidance from the Yoga Master. Most of the yogic
movements are easy and fluid. There are asanas that would act as a panacea for
specific health issues and sustained practice restores normal health.

The modern folks are easily attracted by the dazzling GYM ambience
rather than the simple and plain yoga culture. I may classify those joining my classes
into three categories. Children on insistence of parents, professionals from corporate
sector, especially from I T field for stress buster and persons with some health issues
for relief. I observe that those who join yoga for limited purposes leave the course
after they get the desired results. Overall, the dropout rate is about 10 per cent, while
about 50 percent of the batch completes the course and realize that Yoga is a
lifelong ally for healthy living.
